Job Description

Essential Function

Under general supervision and direction of the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, manages team responsible for performing business analysis using various techniques, e.g. statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, data mining and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) tools to create high quality reports to be used for operational and executive level decision making.

Primary Duties

  • Hires, supervises and manages staff.
  • Makes recommendations to Vice Provost and leadership within Enrollment Management on strategic direction and initiatives as it relates to the EM Data Analysis workgroup and resulting from the work of the EM Data Analysis workgroup.
  • Convenes staff from the various areas of Enrollment Management who perform a data analysis function for their specific unit to create opportunities for collaboration and efficiency.
  • Determines best practices and develops actionable insights and recommendations for the current business operations.
  • Provides data modeling and report building skills to support the organizational decision-making process, and provides knowledge of statistical analysis on as-needed basis.
  • Designs, implements and analyzes enrollment reporting (i.e., statistical model building, trending and tracking) as it relates to recruitment/retention and enrollment. 
  • Utilizes reporting tools (i.e. OBIEE/OBIA) to build reports and dashboards. 
  • Leads other employees in the unit to develop reports in CaRT, Catalyst, Slate, SAP, etc.
  • Leverages the Student Information System (PeopleSoft), Admissions Systems (Slate and Common App), and other university system to analyze data, create reports, and make recommendations.  
  • Utilizes ETL tools to automate standard reporting.
  • Evaluates diverse data sets, identifies new types of data and data sources to determine patterns; synthesizes the data into meaningful metrics and numbers; monitors data quality, identifies inconsistencies, and development of recommendations to optimize business processes and performance. 
  • Works with departments to define business problems and questions and performs analysis.  
  • Works with data architect or application specialists to identify the data sources required to support an analytical project or development of a complex report. 
  • Makes recommendations to data owners on best practices.
  • Develops load plans using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) to quickly demonstrate new concepts, reports and dashboards; utilizes reporting tools (i.e. OBIEE/OBIA) to build reports and dashboards. 
  • Provides leadership recommendations on action to take with regard to enrollment, admissions, recruiting, finances, marketing, and budgeting.
  • Creates and maintains dashboards in Tableau to solve business problems.
  • Monitors fund balances and budget reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related degree with three (3) years of experience or an Associate's degree with five (5) years of experience, or a combination of relevant education and seven (7) years of experience.
  • Relevant experience includes operational and analytical reporting, ETL processing and/or background in complex data analysis techniques used to process large data sets effectively.
